Jaimie Engle, a local resident and award-winning author of Brevard County, will speak to students in Clearlake, Florida about the writing and publishing process on June 18th during Washburn Academy’s book fair. Engle’s first book Clifton Chase and the Arrow of Light was discovered by a parent and she reached out to the author with the request. As a regular school speaker, Engle’s mission to promote literacy and counter bullying through the Power of Words in Life and Literature made her the perfect fit to talk to kids about the process of writing, publishing, and selling a book!

“What an amazing opportunity to stand in front students and their parents to share my story about becoming a published author,” shared Engle, who independently published her first novel in 2012. “My books are geared toward tweens and teens, so any chance I get to inspire, empower, and educate this age group makes me realize what an awesome job I have as an author/speaker.”

Engle was asked to bring copies of her books to include in the school’s book fair and hopes this will open the door to bring her anti-bullying message across the state, from Brevard County to Hillsborough County, and each one in between!

“I use my platform as an author to get kids to think about the power of their words,” shared Engle who was awarded as the Best Independent Novelist on the Space Coast in 2017. “Words can build worlds or destroy people, and it’s important to get tweens and teens thinking about what story they want to leave behind.”

When Engle was told that Washburn Academy was a not for profit facility, Engle went to Facebook and asked her community to help pay the way. She was able to raise $115 to cover the cost of her program and travel expenses.

“Wow, this is awesome, Jamie! You are very proactive and I admire your positive attitude,” shared Gayla Aguirre, the guidance counselor of Washburn Academy. “We are a full grade school and have the younger audience as well as the young adult crowd! I look forward to your visit very much!”

Engle is available for all school and community visits, and invites you to Adopt-A-School for an author visit.
