Palm Shores, Florida March 25, 2020– Local middle grade and young adult author Jaimie Engle’s publisher announced yesterday that all of their e-books are available for free during the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. This includes Engle’s award-winning fantasy novel, “Clifton Chase and the Arrow of Light,” which has been adapted into a stage play and is currently under consideration for the several state reader award lists.
The story follows Clifton Chase on a magical journey from Melbourne, Florida to a few delightful fantasy settings and England, circa the War of the Roses. Engle had the idea for this book while at her son’s archery class in Wickham Park in Melbourne. She has shared the story’s anti-bullying message with thousands of young readers through visits to schools in Florida, New York and virtually to schools in Oklahoma.
“As a mother who homeschooled both of her boys for three years, I can’t think of a better resource to put into the hands of children when schools are closed than an enthralling book,” said Jaimie Engle, author of “Clifton Chase and the Arrow of Light”. “Things are really tough for everyone right now, but the silver lining is that families have a lot of time together. A daily reading lesson or a bedtime story creates bonding time that is absolutely priceless.”
Engle’s book has not been officially released with her new publisher, INtense Publications, but that didn’t derail plans to release the title to children whose schools were shuttered due to the pandemic. Fans can download an advanced reader copy of “Clifton Chase and the Arrow of Light” by visiting intensepublications.com and using the code CLIFTONARC when prompted to pay for the e-book. The print book will be officially released on April 11th.
“Clifton Chase and the Arrow of Light” was never meant to be a standalone book and Engle has been hard at work on the anxiously awaited sequel, “Clifton Chase on Castle Rock.” Fans can expect the sequel to release this coming winter.
INtense Publications’ mission is to offer boys and minority populations books that were written just for them. As a teacher, foster parent and young adult author, Jana Grissom noticed that such titles are hard to find. She founded INtense Publications in 2018 to meet the literacy needs of boys and minorities. Her company’s catalog features fantasy, science, self-help, young adult and middle grade titles that dare readers to think outside the box.
“The Corona Virus is affecting everyone, including our INtense team,” said Jana Grissom, owner and founder of INtense Publications. “We are here for the kids. For the authors already published, I’ve encouraged them to offer free ebooks for children, giving my full support to spoil kids! Together, we can try to make this time as magical for them as possible, and what better way to escape reality than through a child’s imagination?”
INtense Publications’ core mission is to engage young readers with a variety of diverse books that tackle difficult themes, such as bullying, disability, discrimination and family issues. The publisher searches for authors who are unafraid to speak with a unique voice to spread diversity and inclusion into the teen literary world.
It’s easy to see how Engle’s book helps INtense Publications to further its goal. The novel’s anti-bullying message is weaved into the story with such precision that even the most discerning reader wouldn’t feel preached to, but would take away the crucial theme.
“At a time like this, it’s really calming to take a moment and read a chapter of a good fantasy novel with your child,” Engle said. “If it’s a book that your child can truly connect with or that shares an important message, that’s even better.”
